Citroen C5 Aircross will be a serial PHEV in less than two years

World premiere plug-in hybrid version of its flagship crossover was at the Paris motor show.

For the first time Aircross Citroen C5 was presented in Shanghai in April 2017, the Chinese market it was released in October of the same year. Within the premiere of “celestial” option, it was stated that the hybrid will get four-wheel drive, two electric motors with a total output of 300 HP, and battery, allowing the electric to drive about 60 kilometres on one charge.


It has now turned out that the French still beat the European version plug-in hybrid version of the Citroen C5 Aircross was front wheel drive. The crossover is equipped with an electric motor with 109 HP recoil, it is installed between the gasoline 180-strong “turboservice” THP 1.6-liter and 8-speed hydromechanical “automatic machine” Aisin.


In the end, the total capacity of the hybrid power-plant was reduced from the promised 300 to 225 HP, and the stock of the electric range from 60 to 50 km (the speed should not exceed 130 km/h on the autobahn will automatically turn on hybrid mode).


From standard sockets lithium-ion rechargeable battery with a capacity of 13.2 kWh could fully charge in 8 hours; in the case of “recharge” from the Express terminal with a 32-amp current this period will be reduced to 1 hour 40 minutes.


Yet at the Paris motor show Citroen C5 Aircross PHEV is presented in the status of a concept, a serial plug-in hybrid version should appear on the market of the Old world in about a year and a half in early 2020.


The European version of the standard C5 Aircross will go on sale in late 2018. It differs from Chinese dimensions (10 and 20 mm smaller in length and width, respectively), while on the contrary more ground clearance – 230 mm 201 mm. in Addition, the “old world” version more than the trunk, otherwise the steering wheel, and three separate folding chairs (like the Picasso compact MPV), while the “Chinese” of the backrest folded in proportion 60:40.


The crossover is built on a modular platform EMP2. The Chinese and European version received a suspension with hydraulic limit switches (Progressive Hydraulic Cushions, PHC). It’s about the fact that the standard dampers are attached a pair of hydraulic buffers that are “quenched” punches during compression strokes and rebound.


Citroen C5 Aircross will get to Russia, sales start in 2019. Likely to our market the car will be delivered from France. A hybrid version of drivers from Russia, probably not worth waiting.
