The Lincoln Navigator SUV became aluminum after the Fords

“Quiet luxury is about look and feel,” says Kumar Malhotra, President of Lincoln Motor. “The new Navigator embodies both concepts.” The machine is able to touch feelings already at the approach of the owner: on the versions Reserve and Black Label the emblem on the grid greets.

The fourth generation of the Lincoln Navigator model debuted in new York city. The Lincoln Navigator concept, shown last spring, pretty accurately reflected the looks of a production car. Only door type “gull wings” and thresholds in roll-away staircases gave way to a conventional design. And, of course, the grille is painted in accordance with the new style of the brand and looks like a similar part of the continental sedan, only here it is larger. The main thing: after the Ford F-150 Expedition and Navigator has got the new aluminum body (steel frame), which allowed to reduce the weight of the model is approximately 90 kg.

The developers say that” reinvested ” body mass savings in strengthening the sound insulation, which will impress users. Among other things, there are laminated front and side Windows.

The engine of the new Navigator is the same as the predecessor used after its restyling in 2014: V6 3.5 EcoBoost with direct injection and two turbochargers. Only now it’s the new EcoBoost. And instead of 385 HP-456 horses (the number can be adjusted when the car goes on sale). The maximum torque is not specified (it was 624 n•m), but you can focus on the figure related pickup f-150 Raptor (691 n•m). Paired with the” six “works ten – “automatic”.

Digital tidy-based display with a diagonal of 12 inches reconfigured in accordance with the wishes of the driver. As an option, you can order a projection display on the windshield. The “base” includes wireless charging for smartphone and Wi-Fi access point for ten devices.

Inside, the developers have tried to convey a sense of luxury through careful selection of materials and textures, despite the fact that the overall interior design is concise, calm. The equipment corresponds to the premium look: the front seats are equipped with heating, cooling, massage and electrical adjustments in 15 directions.

Along with comfort, practicality is promised: on all rows there are numerous containers for storage of small things, and on the second row — control of climatic and audio systems.

Standard in the Navigator is a multimedia system Sync 3 with support for Apple Airplay and Android Auto with voice assistant, Alexa. As an option, you can get an entertainment complex on the second row with two ten-inch tablets and broadcast your favorite TV channels through the analog console Slingbox from Sling Media. Still available the Revel Ultima audio system with 20 speakers (“database” 14 Revel speakers).

Among other things, the Navigator is equipped with an adjustable shelf in the trunk, six USB ports, four 12-volt outlets and one 110-volt.

In General, considerable progress has been made in electronic equipment. For example, the car received adaptive headlights sensitive to speed (at low — the beam is wider to see the roadsides and sidewalks, at high — already to less dazzle oncoming and reduce glare from the signs).

Light greeting is accompanied by highlighting on the asphalt virtual Mat with the logo of the brand.

Even in the model there was a system of changing traffic modes with many settings for road conditions. There is also a trailer maneuvering assistant, automatic control of the car, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, a circular vision system. The company did not announce the price list and the exact date of the start of sales. But we know that the closest relative of the Expedition of the new generation will get to dealers in the autumn. So, Navigator-at about the same time or at the beginning of winter.

The first generation Lincoln Navigator was issued in the years 1998-2002. The model was based on the Ford Expedition SUV and was equipped first with a V8 5.4 Triton engine with a capacity of 230 HP, and then its improved version for 260 HP.Later, a new V8 InTech engine of the same volume developed 300 “horses” (in the heads of its unit there were two camshafts instead of one and four valves per cylinder).

At the end of the 1990s and 2000 was the peak of popularity of the model as a whole. So, in 1998 only in the US was sold almost 44 thousands of copies Navigator, and in 1999 — almost 40 thousands of. And then it was more than 40% of the segment. Cadillac Escalade in those same years in the United States were found at 23-24 thousands of customers.

The second generation of the Navigator (2003-2006) was de facto based on the previous One. It has retained from its predecessor not only the Ford U platform, but also some part of the body, although many exterior panels have changed, as well as the interior. But the engineers worked on the chassis: the car got a new rear multi-link and steering gear. The engine was first taken from its predecessor — V8 5.4 with two camshafts in the head of the unit. He developed three hundred “horses”.

In 2005, the former motor was replaced by a new version of the “eight”: again there was one camshaft in each head of the unit, but now there were three valves per cylinder and phase change system. This unit gave 300 HP.

The third generation of the Navigator was produced in the summer of 2006. It moved to a new platform Ford T1 (it is based on the Expedition of the third generation) with a revised once again independent suspension and rear five-lever scheme. The car got a new look, but its” heart ” was taken from the previous generation. But the changes occurred in the transmission: previously, the car in the all-wheel drive version shared with the related model Expedition two-stage transfer case, but from the third generation Navigator got its distribution, single-stage.

The second and third (see photo) generation of the Navigator has sold worse and worse. In 2013, Navigator found only 8613 fans in the US, while the Escalade — 22.5 thousand.

When restyled in early 2014, the “face” of the model was brought into line with the then corporate style, and in the cabin there were new appliances, center console and finishing materials.

In 2014-2016, things got a little better, when the United States diverged on 10-12 thousand Navigators a year. So affected by a facelift, in the course of which atmospheric 314-strong “eight” 5.4 has been replaced by the 3.5 V6 unit with a twin-turbocharged, with a capacity of 385 HP at the same time, extended the list of standard and optional equipment, in particular the assistant driver, added adaptive chassis.
